January 20th (2 Days Late)
January 20, 2005
Another day!!! Last night passed as a very early night. All three kids fell asleep one by one! In fact, Georgia is still asleep sideways in between 2 of the beds! It’s very early here, 630am in Colombia. Today is a pretty uneventful day. We finally are getting a little bit more conversation from her, even though it is via the computer translator, she is communicating. Seems we are going to do a bit of shopping today as she would like another dress or two, some books and some stuffed animals to put on the bed!
LUNCHTIME ~ 1/20/05
Well, we got our shopping done while Michael posted and checked email….it was very hot, sticky and Georgia insisted on being carried the WHOLE TIME. By the time we got back to meet Michael at the internet place, I was done in. In short, I was cranky…....
So we all piled in a cab and came back to the hotel where Georgia fell fast asleep. Carlos and Sylvia were to meet us for lunch and I opted to stay in the room while Georgia slept rather than try to eat with her sacked out on my shoulder or lap! Carlos and Sylvia are wonderful ~ Carlos escorts us everywhere and even escorted us to try and find Johanna her dress! (He admittedly knows nothing about shopping for dresses except that with the dress also comes shoes, a purse and anything else we can find….) It seems I missed out but I think Braden said something about us having lunch out with them tomorrow in between our meetings. It should be officially done in Florencia tomorrow and then we will make for Bogota, which is a good thing because the heat is having a not-so-pleasant affect on our son. (He doesn’t like the heat and becomes a massive whiner).
What is hard about today is that the Governor of Caqueta in here in the hotel and it is full of people and military ~ talk about feeling REALLY REALLY conspicuous. Michael told Braden he had to wait to go down to the pool until he was done having lunch with Carlos and Slyvia and he doesn’t want to……Johanna, on the other hand, is happily playing with the Gameboy. Georgia is still sleeping.
I, myself, am starting to wilt in the heat and am ready for a change in temperature. I’d also like to do some laundry, take a hot shower and wear some different clothes ~ other than that, life is good!
It’s getting a little better with Johanna, I am learning to pick up on very very subtle cues (at least I think I am….) and when she responds with her smile and a little nod of the head, I must have got it right! She seems to love being a sister and she seems to understand what they want in spite of the language barrier.
Janet, I take it Nolan made it to pre-school? Funny story, thanks for sharing!!!!
Reed and Erin, I finally got to read your journal and I am very happy for all of you! Your daughter is beautiful and I can’t wait to meet her! You will be home when you get this but I wish you for you a joyful reunion with Jackson! On a personal note, Reed ~ Bet our coffee was better than your coffee!!! = 0 D
