No More Chat for Now

We received our last email from KJ shortly after Christmas. In it she said she was very happy to have gotten our picture (below) and that she hoped we had a very good Christmas. Of the picture she said (in Spanish), “I feel proud because you think to send me messages and greetings…”

But she also said she wouldn’t be able to chat any more, as the internet connection was too difficult and too costly keep up. There have been no more emails.

Joie has continued to send her brief messages, though, just to say “Hola Hija! We are counting the days!” If she doesn’t get them when we send them, that’s OK. We’ll show them to her soon.

Joie is packed, all our toiletries are ready. Braden is anxious, Georgia is happily oblivious. What does she care about guerillas 50 miles from Florencia or the state deportment’s explicit warning for tourists to steer clear of Caqueta province? Luckily for us, the government of Colombia considers us to be doing “business” and has no problem issuing a visa.

Today we shopped for final items, including a new Gameboy game for Braden. Will it keep him sated on a 13-hour journey to the equator? We also looked at Reed and Erin's pictures from Beijing and the Great Wall. Tomorrow they meet Abigail!

A little bit of irony before I go off to bed: It snowed here last night, if only for 15 minutes or so. But tomorrow's weather in Florencia? 87 degrees and clear. How will KJ ever adapt?
